GP registration in New Zealand

Thinking about coming to live and work in Christchurch or the South Island of New Zealand?

If you’re trained in the UK, Ireland, Canada or Australia and you meet the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) criteria, you’ll probably find it easy not only to make the shift but also to gain registration here.

  GP registration in New Zealand

Pegasus Health has an exceptional track record in helping overseas trained GPs learn about New Zealand, its primary care system and the sort of work they might be interested in doing here.

We can help you through the registration process from start to finish, connect you to others thinking about making the move or who have made it already and give you all the information you’ll need.

To work as a GP in New Zealand you’ll need:

  • Medical registration
  • A confirmed job offer
  • A work permit
  • Work with a practice as part of a PHO and a HealthPAC Payee Number
(phone 0800 281222, option 4) entitling payment of subsidies for some patients.

Pegasus Health can help you through each of these stages – from navigating the MCNZ process through to gaining a work permit and the necessary work with one of our practices.

“One thing that really helped was the year I spent working at the Pegasus Health 24 Hour Surgery when I first arrived. It was an invaluable introduction to the culture, and a good opportunity to get a feel for the city and where I wanted to live and practice, before committing myself.”
